The actual rule

How Oklahoma calculates it

Oklahoma bases your weekly benefit on your highest-earning calendar quarter in the base period. You get 1/23 of that quarter's wages each week. For example, if your best quarter was $9,200, your weekly benefit would be $400.

The 2026 limits are $16 minimum and $649 maximum per week. If 1/23 of your best quarter exceeds $649, you receive the cap.

Unlike most states, Oklahoma gives everyone the same duration: 16 weeks. Your total benefit is simply 16 times your weekly amount. There is no sliding scale based on work history.

Qualifying

Do you qualify in Oklahoma?

To qualify on wages, you generally need at least $1,500 in base-period wages and total wages of at least 1.5 times your highest quarter. There is an alternative route: you can also qualify with any taxable wages if your total wages reach the taxable wage base for the claim year.

You must also meet the conditions that apply everywhere: out of work through no fault of your own, able to work, available for work, and actively seeking work each week you file a claim.

Maximum total benefit: 16 x WBA.

Common questions

Oklahoma unemployment, in plain language

How much unemployment will I get in Oklahoma? +
Between $16 and $649 per week in 2026. Oklahoma pays 1/23 of your highest-quarter wages. If you earned $11,500 in your best quarter, that's $500 per week. High earners hit the $649 cap.
How long does unemployment last in Oklahoma? +
16 weeks — the same for everyone, and shorter than the 26 weeks many states offer. Your total benefit is 16 times your weekly amount. It's smart to budget and search for work with this shorter window in mind.
How is the weekly benefit calculated in Oklahoma? +
Divide your highest-quarter wages by 23. For example, $6,900 in your best base-period quarter gives a $300 weekly benefit. The result is subject to the 2026 minimum of $16 and maximum of $649.
Can I work part-time and still get unemployment in Oklahoma? +
Yes. Oklahoma disregards your first $100 of earnings each week — that amount doesn't reduce your benefit. Earnings above $100 reduce your payment, and you must report everything you earn. Earning too much in a week means no benefit for that week.
Who qualifies for unemployment benefits in Oklahoma? +
Generally you need at least $1,500 in base-period wages and total wages of at least 1.5 times your highest quarter; an alternative test based on the taxable wage base can also qualify you. You must also have lost your job through no fault of your own and be able, available, and actively looking for work.
Is unemployment taxable in Oklahoma? +
Yes, benefits are taxable income on your federal return, and you can have federal tax withheld by filing Form W-4V. State tax treatment varies, so check with your state tax agency or a tax professional about your situation.
What if my Oklahoma unemployment claim is denied? +
You can appeal. Your denial notice will explain the reason and give a deadline, so file the appeal promptly and keep making your weekly claims while you wait. If you win, you can be paid for those weeks.
